Digital Foundry took a look at The Ascent last week. Neon Giant is an indie developer made up of 12 people based in Uppsala, Sweden. Publisher Curve Digital said it achieved its largest ever opening weekend sales revenue, generating more than $5m (£3.6m) from The Ascent's launch. "Our team is continuing to work hard on improving the game and we are very grateful for all the support and feedback from our players," Neon Giant said.ĭespite technical issues, it sounds like The Ascent is a hit. There's a lot more to the update - the patch notes are worth checking out if you've been playing the game, or holding off until it improved. Meanwhile, also across all platforms, the patch tackles issues with save progress, including the addition of a new system to circumvent situations where save files could become corrupted. "Numerous other crash-fixes have been made to improve the stability of both local and online co-op," the patch notes continue, "including fixes when disconnecting controllers, issues when 3 Players start a new game, and fixes when the internet connection becomes unstable." Sticking with co-op, there's a fix for local co-op where player one and player two have controller focus issues on certain menus. However, Neon Giant acknowledged some other instances of crashes remain, which it's working to sort out. The patch also mentions improved loading in of NPCs on PC, and the addition of a CPU performance mode for lower-end PCs.Īcross all platforms, the patch fixes numerous instances of one-time crashes, both in single-player and co-op. The Ascent does not support ray tracing on Xbox Series X or S - it is a PC-only feature. That latter change is important - after The Ascent came out, players soon discovered the PC version lacked DLSS and ray tracing on Game Pass but not Steam.ĭLSS for PC Game Pass was added in a small update issued earlier this week, along with a difficulty selector. Specifically on PC, the patch improves performance in DX12, also with ray tracing, and makes ray tracing available to players on the Windows Store. Here's the Digital Foundry video breakdown for The Ascent, tested on all Xbox consoles - and PC. The update, which is available now for the Steam version of the cyberpunk-themed RPG-shooter and will be out soon for Xbox and Windows 10 players, tackles co-op problems and stability issues, among other things. You can still however play without the DLCs but they add some cool stuff to the game, and even without DLC you will still be able to get enough stuff to entartain you for a while.īut if you want to wait for a sale I am pretty sure it will come on the summer sale, before that I am unsure if there will even be one.Neon Giant has released a significant patch for The Ascent that addresses some of the burning issues with the game. The ATB boots allow you to run normally through water and snow making them almost a must have for snow or jungle maps. I will delete the previous poster's reply for clarification as the information in there was misleading, but I can copy the rest of his reply which is relevant: The amount of enemies do scale depending on the number of players, so missions are doable with just you two :) The only hard bit may be Retaliatory Strikes at first, but with practice they should be fine! in the sense that the host could be the keyboard player or a. From the steam remote local play announcement thingie it sounded like there could only ever be one keyboard player. so how do I get to run the key/mouse for the 2nd guy than dont seem to get any response or do i need to have multiple controlers 2 FallenG0D 9:21am By local i ment on 1 pc not lan for local you need more controllers, only one k&m player. You and your girlfriend can definitely play together, but she would have to be a guest under your Steam account, as Steam does not allow for multiple account logins at once. I am unable to get more than 2 players in my party even tho i keep plugging my keyboard in. 1 Vierzig 9:19am local coop could mean LAN dont mean its on one system. Helldivers DOES HAVE local coop on PC, which means that you can have up to 4 players on a single PC as long as you are using gamepads. I'm really glad that it's possible to do with only 2.
